The sleep experts at Morpheus know that a good night's sleep starts on a mattress made of natural latex. In fact, for the Sleep&Dream collection, co-developed by Morpheus, only the purest materials are used. Natural latex in the mattress stands for optimal heat regulation and years of sleeping comfort. In this blog, the advisors at Morpheus share their knowledge about naturallatex versus synthetic latex. overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”2/3″][vc_row_inner top_padding=”30″ bottom_padding=”0″][vc_column_inner column_padding=”padding-4-percent” column_padding_position=”all” background_color=”#cbdbdb” background_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/1″][vc_column_text el_class=”inzicht”]Want to experience the regulation and moisture-wicking effect of natural materials for yourself? Natural latex: a well-kept secret of nature
In a previous blog, you could already read that for the perfect mattress, secrets from nature are used to regulate heat and coolness. Something that cannot be replicated with synthetic materials! Synthetic materials are made from by-products of oil refineries and consist of the same raw materials used to make plastic. They are very suitable for sportswear: synthetic materials are good at quickly transporting moisture, but they are not moisture-absorbing or moisture-regulating. Whether you actually want to sleep on that… A salient detail: the salesperson of synthetic mattresses often sits at the table wearing a – yes, you read that right – natural cotton shirt.
Natural latex, on the other hand, can absorb moisture and regulates heat. Like many other natural products, natural latex has antibacterial, antifungal, and dust mite-repellent properties. This makes it suitable for people with allergies.

Don't be fooled…
Natural latex is produced by only a handful of manufacturers worldwide and has a long production process, which is discussed further on in this blog. Synthetic latex is made by thousands of manufacturers and is easier to produce. This affects the price: synthetic latex is significantly cheaper. Consequently, many manufacturers use a mix of mostly synthetic latex and mostly natural latex.
There is a friction regarding the labeling of mattresses. A mattress may bear the label '100% natural latex' … if at least 40% natural latex is incorporated into it. The other part is synthetic latex. Only pure natural latex is used in Morpheus mattresses. No synthetic latex is added to our mattresses. Morpheus mattresses are really 100% natural latex![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”2/3″][image_with_animation image_url=”258280″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In”][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
The production of natural latex
The long production process of natural latex begins with the Hevea Brasiliensis, the Brazilian rubber tree. Approximately 95% of all natural latex produced worldwide comes from this tree. The natural latex in Sleep & Dream mattresses comes from our manufacturer's own plantations in Malaysia.
When a tree is 6 years old, the milky sap – the natural latex – can be harvested. Producers cut spirals of angled incisions into the bark, where they conduct tapping rounds every other day or every two days. The tree remains alive during the harvesting of the sap. A new spiral incision is required for each tapping round. The sap from the tree can only be extracted once every 7 to 8 years; after that, the bark must recover. In one year, a single latex tree produces the amount of natural latex required for one mattress.
If a rubber tree is no longer suitable for harvesting after 35–40 years, the tree is felled. For example, the wood is used to make bed frames or bedside tables.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”2/3″][vc_row_inner top_padding=”30″ bottom_padding=”0″][vc_column_inner column_padding=”padding-4-percent” column_padding_position=”all” background_color=”#cbdbdb” background_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/1″][vc_column_text el_class=”inzicht”]Want to experience the effect of regulation and moisture wicking of natural materials yourself?
