Scented candles
Our nose is the most sensitive sense of our body and is directly connected to our emotional brain. Scent can evoke strong emotions and make or break a space. The fact that scent is emotion is therefore not airy-fairy nonsense, but can be scientifically substantiated.
No wonder scented candles are currently on the rise. But don't worry for those whose mucous membranes are still recovering from the intense potpourri scents of yesteryear: those days are long gone. Modern scented candles spread a subtle, pleasant fragrance. Moreover, candlelight—from both scented and decorative candles—is the ultimate mood setter.
Scented candles are typically composed of three 'fragrance layers' that are released in phases as they burn. This structure gives the released scents intensity and depth. Even the material from which the wick is made contributes to the strength of the fragrance. Candles with multiple wicks produce more wax and thus spread a more intense scent. If possible, choose candles with a wick made of a natural material, such as cotton or linen. This ensures an intense fragrance experience, even with a single wick. In terms of burn time, the rule is: the more luxurious the candle, the longer it burns.
Scented candles can be made from soy and beeswax or paraffin. Decorative and cheaper scented candles are generally made from paraffin and produce more soot. Candles made from soy and beeswax are a more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative.
