Is a hard mattress good? The myth debunked

Morpheus punctures this myth 3 times!
1) A hard mattress places too much tension on the body
An ideal bed provides your body with relaxation at night through proper support. It must support the natural posture of your spine, ensuring that intervertebral discs do not experience incorrect pressure and that muscles and joints are not subjected to undue strain. A hard mattress, on the other hand, puts tension on the spine, muscles, and joints. This can lead to physical discomfort in the morning.
2) How did the myth originate?
So where did the myth come from? It originated in two ways. In the past, people slept on a longitudinally tensioned spring base. This easily creates a hollow in the bed, almost a kind of hammock effect. For back problems, a doctor or therapist would suggest placing a plank under the bed to prevent this sagging. It reduced the symptoms, and thus the idea arose that 'the harder, the better'.
The second way the myth originated: the hard bed of a herniated disc patient. In the past, these patients were advised to sleep on a hard bed after surgery. The hard bed was supposed to cause a lot of tension on the muscles surrounding the spine and intervertebral discs. As a result, the herniated disc—a protrusion of an intervertebral disc—remained in place and could slowly heal. That was an interim solution, a form of therapy, and therefore not good for people with a healthy back.
3) Too soft is often sagging
Can a bed be too soft? Certainly. However, there is a big difference between a bed that is supple and one that is too soft because it is worn out, has hollows, or has sagged. A good mattress supports the entire spine in the right places, tailored precisely to the body. Therefore, to find the right mattress, you need expert advice.
