Breathable bedding for a cool night

However, on warm summer days it will likely be significantly warmer, and nights can become stuffy. The Morpheus Sleep Scan shows that more than 50% of participants suffer from this. A smart solution: breathable bedding that absorbs perspiration and thus reduces the heat.

The windows are open at night, and the curtains are closed during the day to keep out as much heat from the sun as possible; on really hot nights, that doesn't make much difference anymore. And to then immediately install air conditioning and all the bells and whistles… But have you thought about the duvet and bedding? On average, a person loses half a liter of fluid during an 8-hour night's sleep (and that is healthy). All the more reason to use breathable and moisture-absorbing bed linen.

Breathable fabrics
Much bedding is made of polyester these days. Synthetic fabrics are good at regulating moisture, which comes in handy during sports, for example. However, they can hardly regulate heat, whereas heat regulation in bed while sleeping is particularly important to prevent night sweats.

Linen, cotton, and other fabrics with thin, natural threads and a loose weave breathe better. Therefore, they are more suitable for bedding in summer temperatures. Choose an airy fabric, such as a light cotton, if you wish to sleep under a sheet. These fabrics absorb perspiration, preventing sweat from accumulating on the skin. Wash the sheets frequently and at a high temperature (60 degrees) to keep them fresh. Nightwear made of polyester or other synthetic fabrics increases night sweats. For this reason, preferably wear cotton or linen nightwear.

Summer Duvets
Do not let yourself lie stiffly under the duvet you use all year round during warm summer nights. Use a thin summer duvet! These are filled with a thin layer of down or wild silk. This way, during summer nights, you still have the feeling of being under something, but nice and cool. Tip: do not choose a synthetic summer duvet. This does not breathe and will make you feel sweaty.

Also consider the mattress or topper.
The fabric and filling of the mattress or topper contribute to a cooling or, conversely, stuffy feeling. A mattress or topper made of natural foam (natural latex) and covered with natural materials (wool, cotton, silk, and/or bamboo) ensures excellent temperature regulation and has natural moisture-regulating properties.
